Murphy Mavericks Dominate in Season Opener

Murphy Mavericks Dominate in Season Opener

Both Murphy Middle School 8th grade volleyball teams opened the new season Wednesday against the Carpenter Middle School Cowboys. The Murphy Mavericks are attempting to repeat the success the 7th grade teams that were fielded in last year's volleyball seasons had on the court. Last season's B and A teams won first and second in their respective city wide district tournaments after winning seasons.

The Lady Mavericks 8th grade B team played in the first of these two back-to-back contests and came out serving hard and fast. Behind the consistent serving of #24 Taylor Carley, who rattled off 20 consecutive service points, the Lady Mavs easily took the first game 25-4. The second game in the best of three match up ended with Murphy on top 25-14 behind 10 consecutive service points from #11 Lily Doumen

The A teams took their turns next and delivered similar results for the home team in their opening contest of the season. Murphy won the first game 25-9 behind consistent serving from #9 Rachel Pinegar and her streak of 10 consecutive service points. The second game closed out with a 25-14 win for the Lady Mavs punctuated by the outstanding outside hitting from #2 Lolo Lambert.

The Lady Mavs captured what the hope to be the first of many straight set victories for the A and B teams this season. You can watch teh 8th graders play their home games in the Murphy field house typically on Wednesdays starting at 6:00PM. The next home contests are scheduled for the next three consecutive Wednesdays starting with August 28 against Wilson, then Robinson, and then Schimelpfenig before playing away.
