Murphy Crossing Dental Care Provides Personalized Dental Care
When patients come to Murphy Crossing Dental Care, Dr. Sarah Chilmeran said they will be surprised to find that “we’re not terrifying”. She said some patients have a fear of visiting the dentist and the team at Murphy Crossing Dental Care want to provide a dental experience that is comfortable, and make people feel welcome.” She added, “We have a relaxed, yet efficient and professional environment. I don’t want people to feel like this is a factory or that we’re stressed for time or stressed in any way. It’s always the patient first. You must get to know them personally, not view them as just a patient.” She laughs when she explains that some families send a family member in as a “scout”. When the scout has an enjoyable visit, the rest of the family schedules their appointments.
Dr. Chilmeran said that she always knew she wanted to pursue a career in the health care field. While in high school, she took a course that allowed students to explore different medical fields. During the last two weeks of the course, she shadowed her family dentist and realized then that being a dentist would be a great career choice for her. Her favorite aspect of being a dentist is getting to talk to people every day, “It’s fun to experience different personalities.”
Dr. Chilmeran earned her undergraduate degree from Austin College in Sherman. She graduated from dental school at the University of Texas Health Science Center in San Antonio in 2014.
After working in a private practice for two years, Dr. Chilmeran felt the need for a change of pace. On recommendations from her friends, she interviewed at Murphy Crossing Dental Care and knew this was the place for her because the team members truly cared for their patients. She has been at Murphy Crossing Dental Care for almost three years. Murphy Crossing Dental Care is an affiliate of the national group DentalWorks.
Murphy Crossing Dental Care has been open for 10 years. Some of the team members have been at this location since it opened. They enjoy seeing their patients when they are out in the community which creates a small-town feel.
The top four reasons patients visit Murphy Crossing Dental Care is for their bi-annual teeth cleaning, if they are experiencing dental pain, they want dentures or for cosmetic procedures. Dr. Chilmeran said that sometimes people request that she remove all their teeth because they have so many dental problems, they think that getting dentures is their only solution. She said sometimes these patients don’t need to go that route and she provides options that will be a better solution for them. Dr. Chilmeran talks about the confidence boost people receive when they are happy with their smile, “People smile a lot differently, if they smile at all, when they are not happy with their teeth. Once they are happy with their smile, all they do is smile.”
When talking with patients at their first appointment, they will discuss the reason for the appointment, dental history and do a full set of x-rays. They will work together to come up with a plan that meets their needs and their financial abilities.
In addition to Dr. Chilmeran, two front desk staff members, two dental hygienists and one dental assistant, there is also an orthodontist who treats patients at Murphy Crossing Dental Care. Dr. Kaveh Baharvand is the orthodontist and is there every other Thursday.
