Panthers Win a Tight Game Against Cumberland
Plano East Panthers Varsity Lacrosse team hosted the Cumberland Knights at Williams High School on Apr. 12 for their fourteenth game of their season. At the start of the game, East had a strong start, formulating an offensive plan while the Knights went into the game with a thought out defensive plan. In the first quarter, East gave up a goal to Cumberland. The Panthers quickly retaliated with three more goals from #42 (Patrick Ames), #67 (Mathew Caldwell) and #16 (Brandon Nemit). These goals were met with significant determination from Cumberland, as they picked up the pace and scored five more goals in the first quarter. Both Plano East and Cumberland had a slow start of the second quarter, only for Cumberland to score a breakout goal. The Panthers quickly turned things around, scoring a goal made by #16 (Brandon Nemit). Nemit then scored one last goal in the second quarter for Plano East, sandwiched between two goals made by Cumberland. East trailed at half time, powered by the 4-goal first half performance of #16, Nemit.
At the start of the second half, Cumberland took the lead scoring a goal at the eight-minute mark. Plano East then retaliated with a goal of their own made by #67 (Caldwell). Cumberland tried to make a comeback, but fell short only scoring one goal for the rest of the game. Plano East took an opening in Cumberland’s defense and scored four more goals made by #42 (Ames) and #67 (Caldwell) ending the third quarter tied, 11-11. With a point-less fourth quarter, the game was forced into overtime, where #67 (Caldwell) scored the winning goal, ending the game 12-11.
With another win under their belt, Plano East moves to their seventeenth game of the season, at John Paul High School, on Apr. 26.
