FACTS about Foot & Ankle Consultants of Texas
On Feb. 4, 2019, Dr. Marcus Baxter opened Foot & Ankle Consultants of Texas in Murphy. His office is located at 412 Village Dr., #300 (behind Christian Brothers Automotive). He listed multiple reasons for choosing this location, “I’m from Sachse and I have family that lives here. I have seen the medical offices being built here and it made sense to join this medical community since there is not any other podiatrist in the area.”
Dr. Baxter decided he wanted to pursue a career in podiatry after sustaining an ankle injury while pole vaulting in high school. He said, “I enjoy working with my hands and helping people. This is a good way to combine those interests. I like that I’m not sitting behind a desk.”
Dr. Baxter and his wife, Lisa, are both graduates of Texas A&M University. After graduating from Texas A&M, Dr. Baxter graduated from Kent State University College of Podiatric Medicine in 2015, and then completed his three year residency at Scott & White Memorial Hospital in Temple, TX in 2018.
When meeting with patients for the first time, Dr. Baxter will perform a thorough exam and review the patient’s history. Additionally, he will ask questions about their home life and daily responsibilities to determine the best treatment.
Dr. Baxter is trained in podiatric medicine and surgery. He can perform surgery on a wide variety of podiatry related ailments ranging from bunions and hammertoes to major foot and ankle reconstruction, as well as ankle arthroscopy. These surgeries would be performed by Dr. Baxter in nearby hospitals.
Thus far, the top reasons patients have come to Foot & Ankle Consultants of Texas are heel pain, toenail issues, foot wounds related to diabetes, sports related injuries and deformity corrections.
Dr. Baxter describes a patient who was diabetic and experienced wounds on his foot that wouldn’t heal. After seeing Dr. Baxter the patient said, “This is the longest my wounds have been healed.” Dr. Baxter shared another success story that involved a patient whose ankle did not heal properly after breaking it. He did major reconstructive surgery and was able to correct the deformity. His favorite aspect of being a podiatrist is treating patients so that they can get back on their feet pain-free and get back to their daily activities.
At Foot & Ankle Consultants of Texas, patients will benefit from the digital x-ray system that processes x-rays in seconds. They also have a vascular testing system which allows identification of possible circulation issues which will help prevent wounds as well as gangrene. It is also used to find the source of leg pain.
Dr. Baxter served as chief resident during his third year of residency and participated in a medical mission in Aug. of 2017. Dr. Baxter describes the medical mission, “Along with more than 60 other podiatrists from Texas, we treated 650 people in six days. We performed over 60 surgeries on a variety of foot ailments.” He hopes that he will be able to go on more medical missions in the future.
After considering other names for the practice, Dr. Baxter and his wife chose Foot & Ankle Consultants of Texas. They look forward to using the acronym ‘FACT’ on social media posts such as FACT Friday where they will discuss podiatry related topics.
