Murphy Soccer Club Finishes out their 7th Season
The Murphy Mavericks Soccer Club will be wrapping up their 7th season, on March 22nd. The club has over 100 players on eight different teams, consisting of 6th, 7th, and 8th grade boys and girls. Each team is student chosen and led, with a captain elected to help lead and organize the team.
The season will finish with a 4-team tournament to crown this year’s Murphy champion. Afterwards, the best players from all teams will be chosen to play on the Murphy District Tournament team. This group of all-star players will be selected based off of their on-field performance, grades, conduct, grade level, and field position. Last year’s 2018 Murphy district team took home 3rd place out of 13 Plano ISD middle schools with a dominating win over Robinson Middle School. This year’s team is looking to aim even higher, hopefully taking home the District Championship as they did in 2016.
Many students go on to play soccer in high school and some even continue to college on soccer scholarships. “It is always so rewarding to know that we provided a place for them to get started in this wonderful sport,” says Alina Isbell, one of the sponsors of the club.
Murphy Middle School has many teachers involved as sponsors and the support of parents and the community. You can support the soccer club in their final games of the season on March 22nd, starting at 3:20 p.m. on the fields behind Murphy Middle School.
