Murphy Student Participates in MSU Miss Maroon and White 2019

STARKVILLE, Miss.—Thirty-five young women competed for the title of Miss Maroon and White 2019 at Mississippi State University on Feb. 26.

In addition to Mississippi, this year’s contestants represented Alabama, Georgia, Florida, Tennessee, Texas and Virginia. They included Kaleigh M. Callender, a senior accounting major from Murphy, TX. She is the daughter of Shannon Callender.

Following is her bio from the pageant: Kaleigh is a senior accounting major all the way from Murphy, TX. Upon graduation, Kaleigh hopes to obtain a Master’s Degree in Accountancy and get a CPA certification. She wants to work in public or corporate accounting and work her way up to the position of Chief Financial Officer. She is the proud daughter of Shannon Callender. During her time at MSU, Kaleigh has been an active member of the National Society of Collegiate Scholars, Beta Alpha Psi, and Alpha Lambda Delta. She was also a Camp Counselor at Senior Camp and Vacation Bible School at First Baptist Church of Wylie, a Volunteer at Operation Christmas Child and the Halloween Costume Carnival Contestant.

The Miss Maroon and White Pageant is the annual beauty review hosted each spring, by the Center for Student Activities. The 35 contestants in the 2019 edition of the Miss Maroon & White pageant each competed in 2 phases of competition including a private interview with the judges and evening gown. The scores from private interview and evening gown were combined to narrow the field down to a top 15. Each of the young ladies that made it to the top 15 then competed in the final phase of competition, on-stage question. From the top 15, 4 Miss Maroon and White Beauties were selected, as well as the 2019 Miss Maroon and White winner. There were additional awards given to contestants including, Most Photogenic, Miss Congeniality and Spirit of Miss Maroon and White. Kaleigh Callendar received the Spirit of Miss Maroon and White award for her hard work and determination in promoting the pageant to friends, family and business’ through the sale of ads in the Miss Maroon & White program book.
