Lions Freshman Finish Strong

The McMillen High School 9th grade Lions A and B-teams hosted matchups against the McKinney Boyd High School Broncos Friday, February 8. The B-team dropped the early contest 40-33

The Lions A-team came out shooting well while dominating the visiting Broncos on the defensive end of the court as well.  The first quarter came to a close with McMillen leading 14-2.  Forward Muiz Qazi led the scoring posting 6 points in the first frame.

The Lions went to halftime with a 24-12 point lead after letting Boyd get within 6 at one point in the second quarter.  Point guard Brendan Hardison led the way with 9 points forcing his way to the charity stripe three times without missing any of his free throws.

The second half saw McKinney Boyd start to come alive after facing an 18 point gap part way thru the 3rd quarter.  The Lions started to falter under the Broncos full court press on defense while adjusting seeing Boyd adjust with an offense intentionally penetrating the lane for higher percentage shots.

Despite letting Boyd within 7 points, the Lions surged in the final few minutes under the rapid scoring of Hardison and his 12-point 4th quarter. The Lions picked up their final regular season victory 50-34.
