PESH Photographer Becomes National Geographic Finalist

PESH Photographer Becomes National Geographic Finalist

PESH ninth grader, Nayana Rajesh, recently competed in the annual City of Richardson Photo Contest. Two of her photos for scenic/landscapes and waterscapes both won first prize. One of her photographs, “The Portal,” was chosen as a National Geographic finalist. Rajesh is now competing with over 5,000 other pictures for either grand, second or third prize. Her work is also being considered for the People’s Choice award.

When describing “The Portal,” Rajesh explained, “Finding this spot in Alabama Hills took a lot of scouting, some sweat and tired feet. I know now that if I had not explored Alabama Hills that summer day, I never would have known that the rocky landscape and blazing light trails make this photo absolutely worth it. So, next time you feel uninspired, explore a little. You might surprise yourself with what you find.”

The grand prize winner will take part in the National Geographic Student Expeditions photography trip. The winner has a choice to attend a photo workshop in Tanzania, New York City, Prague, Lisbon, Tokyo, Yellowstone, Yosemite or San Francisco.

Visit https://ngstudentexpeditions.com/2019-photo-contest/peoples-choice to place your vote for “The Portal” to win the People’s Choice award. Voting is open until Feb. 15.
