Murphy Fire Rescue Hosts 11th Annual Banquet
Murphy Fire Rescue’s 11th Annual Banquet was held Feb. 2 at Murphy Community Center. Fire Chief Del Albright began the evening by welcoming the department’s many members, along with their family and friends. City Manager Mike Castro gave a brief speech thanking the department for their hard work and continued dedication to keep the City of Murphy’s community safe.
Elder Owen Rushing said a prayer before guests enjoyed a delicious dinner buffet that included a salad, fried chicken and corn, along with mashed potatoes and gravy. Babe’s Chicken catered the event. After dinner, the City of Murphy’s Captain Calvin Allison, who is retired, gave a heartfelt speech before the presentation of Murphy Fire Rescue’s 2018 Year in Review. Lieutenant Kenny Wilkins was also a special guest attending the annual banquet.
Awards were presented to Ben Frank for Paramedic of the Year and Thomas Johnson received the Lifesaving Award. John Grant was awarded Firefighter of the Year. Grant said, “I work with some amazing people for the City of Murphy. It was an honor to receive the Firefighter of the Year award. I was pleased that I received the award at the banquet with my wife and children present.”
As the night came to an end, Chief Albright thanked everyone for attending and expressed his admiration and respect for Murphy Fire Rescue’s hard-working members. “The Murphy Fire Rescue Firefighter Annual Banquet is the one event during the year we can all come together as a department, with our families, to hear motivating messages, for comradery, and to recognize those who have been chosen by their peers to receive an award for going above and beyond,” said Chief Albright. “As Chief, this event provides me an opportunity to convey my appreciation and pride for all our members who serve our community with professionalism and commitment to excellence.”
