Cooper Seventh Boys Battle Willow Springs

On Jan. 28, the seventh grade teams (White, Maroon and Blue) welcomed the Leopards from Willow Springs to Cooper Junior High for a battle on the court. 

In the first game the Patriots (White) team fell behind early as the visiting Leopards took a 7-3 lead after the first period. In the second period Cooper's offense came alive as they netted 13 points to trim the lead to 18-16 at half. The scoring in the second period was led by Xavier Filsaime with 9 points and Matthew Brinkley and Cameron Draper with two points each. Willow Springs took control of the game in the third period scoring 18 points in route to a 40-26 win for the Leopards. Scoring in the second half for Cooper included Caleb Carter with 6 points and Stetson Sarratt and Matthew Jordan each with two points. 

The Cooper (Maroon) team jumped out to a 10-5 lead over the Leopards in the first period led by Jacob Booty with 5 points and Kameron Oliver and Euaiel Aklile each with two points. Willow Springs took over the lead in the second period as they scored 18 points for a 23-17 halftime lead. The Patriots offense responded with 15 points in third period to match the Leopards offense, but were unable to close the gap as Willow Springs took the win 47-34. High scorers for Cooper: Jacob Booty 13 pts, Mason Fletcher 11 pts, Euaiel Aklile 6 pts and Kameron Oliver 4 pts. 

The Patriot (Blue) team played the last game of the night and got off to a slow start falling behind 8-0 after the first period. Wyatt Shallow and Absalew Mulugeta scored 5 points for Cooper in the second period, but Willow Springs extended their lead to 16-5 at half. In the third period Brady Baker, EJ Grandy, Mulugeta and Daniel Otah all scored for the Patriots in the best offensive period for the home team. Cooper scored six points in the final period, including two by Jacob Shallow, but it wasn't enough as Willow Springs won 35-19.
