Pink Out Success
On October 1st 2019, the 7th grade Silver and Blue football teams played a “pink out” game against Renner MS at Clark Stadium. The teams wore pink socks and other accessories to support breast cancer awareness and parents were offered the opportunity to donate various breast cancer charities.
The Silver team got off to a slow start against Renner but put together a strong second half to take the win 22-13. The first score for Murphy came on a 40 yard punt return by Andrew Earls early in the second quarter to give the Mavericks a 6-0 lead. Renner answered with a touchdown late in the second quarter and the teams went to halftime tied 6-6. The defense did their part keeping the game in check with two interceptions by Caleb Ortiz and another interception by William Thompson. The Mavericks regained the lead on a 35 yard touchdown pass from Ortiz to Jayden Tesar and Bevan Flanagan converted the extra point for a 14-6 lead. Again Renner responded with a touchdown to pull to 14-13 late in the fourth quarter but Murphy sealed the game with a 25 yard touchdown run from Earls as the clock expired.
The Blue team took control early in the second quarter of the game and never looked back in route to a 28-0 win over Renner. Tamar Seldon scored on a two yard and Blake Letourneau kicked the extra point to give the Mavericks a lead they would never relinquish. Two minutes after the first score the Maverick offense found the end zone again on a six yard run by Seldon making in 14-0. Murphy extended their lead in the third quarter on a 39 yard touchdown pass from Jackson Hays to Daylan McCutcheon for a 20-0 lead. The final score for the Mavericks was another touchdown run by Seldon making the final score 28-0. Murphy was led on defense by linebacker Corbin Ahman, defensive lineman Paul Ngo, linebacker Kendall Keirleber and defensive lineman Mason Dibble who recorded a fumble recovery.
