Fourth Quarter Score Gives Allen Win Over McMillen Freshmen
On October 10th the McMillen Lions welcomed the Eagles from Allen to Kimbrough Stadium for match-up of their 9th grade squads. The game saw several lead changes and proved to be an exciting game that wasn’t decided until the last minute.
In the first quarter both teams were unable to get any offense going on their first possessions but on McMillen’s second possession they found the end zone. Strong running by Brayden Womack pushed the Lions down the field and the Lions took the lead 7-0 on a 22 yard pass from Elijah Prince to Rushil Patel with Brandon McCary converting the extra point. The Eagles responded early in the second quarter to tie the score 7-7. Allen took their first lead of the game right before halftime on a touchdown to make the score 13-7.
The third period was dominated by defense including two 4th down stops by the Lion’s defense. McMillen was led on the defensive side by Javier Valdez who disrupted the Eagles offense all night. Supporting Valdez on defense included strong play by Zain Owen and Austin Huynh. With four minutes remaining in the third quarter McMillen regained the lead on a two yard run by Womack to make the score 14-13. Allen put together an impressive drive in the fourth as the lead changed again making it 21-14 Eagles. McMillen had one last chance to tie the score in the final minute but a fumble in the red zone sealed the game and Allen win 21-14.
