8th grade Boys take on Hendrick Middle
On January 14th, the 8th grade Mavericks A-team played against Hendrick Middle School in
a competitive game. The Mavericks had a promising start to their game, both offensively and defensively,
racking up 9 points in the first period while keeping the Henrick Hawks at only 2 points. The
Mavericks maintained their momentum offensively, adding another 8 points to the scoreboard,
however lacked defensively, with Hendrick bringing in 14 points by the end of the period. By first
half, the score was a close 17-16, with Murphy in the slight lead.
After some time to regroup, the A-team entered the second half strong, pulling in another 13
points, with a successful free throw and two-pointer from Harris Boyd. With a more established 30-
23 lead, the Mavericks entered the fourth period with winning on their mind. The A-team had their
highest scoring period of the game with 14 points, including two successful free throw shots from
Nate Malone. Although Henrick was able to slip in a couple of three-pointers, the Mavericks still
prevailed, winning with a final score of 44-37.
Star players of the game included Rushil Patel with 21 points and Kody Lee-Cribbs with 9
points. You can find the 8th Grade boys as their last game of the regular season on February 4th
against Armstrong at Murphy. B-team plays at 6:00 and A-team at 7:00.
