TxDOT Completes Project in Murphy

TxDOT Completes Project in Murphy

Due to flashing red lights on all traffic signals, driving through the intersection of Murphy Rd. and FM544 proved to be more complicated than usual. In early January, TxDOT was completing a project they had begun in June of 2018. Chris McDaniel, TxDOT construction manager said, “TxDOT installed new traffic signal poles, signal heads, and PED poles on north, south, west, and eastbound lanes of traffic.” He explained, “This work was necessary for the intersection to be upgraded to flashing yellow arrows and pedestrian access.”

Answering whether this work will affect the signal light timing, he said, “Yes, the flashing yellow arrows will make the signal operate more efficiently.” He said the project went as planned. TxDOT paid for the project which cost approximately $127,000.00.

Murphy Police Chief Cotten said that staffing levels and call load that day did not allow Murphy PD to man that intersection. He informed that there were not any crashes at that intersection on that day.
