McMillen Lions Show Great Potential at Spring Showcase

The Spring showcase serves as a great event to bring together all the football teams on Eastside to see the future of Plano East football. The event includes the 7th and 8th grade teams playing a 7 on 7 game followed by McMillen vs Williams and closes with a JV and varsity inter-squad scrimmage.

The current 9th grade team played on McMillen at the showcase with the current 10th graders bumping up to Plano East teams. Coach Damaso Martinez, who will be coaching for his 13th season on the Eastside this fall, says “ The McMillen athletes performed well, considering they are not used to all the music and loud noise. As freshman, the band does not play for their games as they do for the 10th grade, so the environment threw them off in the beginning, but once they settled down we were able to execute.”

On top of a strong start to the upcoming 2018 season at the showcase, the current 9th grade team finished their season with a city championship, giving high hopes for the team next year. “Our sophomores have not lost to a Plano school in the past two years so this group has some big goals set for next season” continues Coach Martinez. The team is aiming to gain back-to-back city championships with this 2018 season and be the first to do so at McMillen. With promising prospects for the future and determination to meet their goals, the 2018 McMillen Sophomore team have an electric season ahead of them.
