Tour de Boggess
April 26, 2018 – A sea of bikes ebbed and flowed across Boggess Elementary’s (PISD) parking lot during the annual Bike Rodeo. Helmet-wearing Boggess Bengals cycled their way through multiple events including a bike obstacle course, stop on a dime and timed races. An area for slow riders was also available.
Members of Murphy fire department and police department were on hand to visit with the kids and share bicycling safety tips. Murphy PD officers Riebschlager and Shuler provided safety tips: 1. Always wear a helmet when riding your bike. 2. Look both ways before crossing the road. 3. Walk your bike when crossing the road.
Plano Cycling and Fitness provided a popular and important service during the rodeo; they inspected riders’ equipment and bikes.
Shannon Cox, Boggess Bike Rodeo Chairperson said the goal of this event is, “A fun family night out.” She voiced a special thank you to food truck businesses, LaRosita and Kona Ice, for providing tasty options for the event. Approximately 200 people were in attendance.
Ross Cornell, Boggess PTA President said he likes the timing of the event because it emphasized bike safety right before summer vacation.
