Heartbreaking Playoff Loss Ends Season For Plano East

The boys varsity squad saw their season come to an end with a last minute 2-1 loss to Flower Mound in the bi-district round of the playoffs. The Panthers ended the regular season with a four game winning streak and looked to capitalize on that momentum against the Jaguars at Ron Poe Stadium. Plano East took an early lead in the 8th minute when sophomore James Stautler headed in a goal off a corner kick for the 1-0 lead. Flower Mound answered in the 21st minute with a goal to tie the score 1-1. The teams remained tied through the majority of the second half and the game looked to be headed to overtime until the Jaguars were awarded a penalty kick with less than a minute remaining. The Jaguars converted the penalty kick in the 80th minute and held on for the 2-1 win over PESH. Head coach Rick Woodard said he was "proud of the team for overcoming many obstacles during the season and never losing focus on the goal". PESH started slow in district at 1-3-1 but fought through illness and injury to finish in second place in on of the toughest districts in the state with a 7-4-2 record. Woodard complemented the "leadership and vital role the seniors played" during the season and says "the future of the soccer team on the Eastside looks very bright."
