MDA Partners with Murphy Fire Fighters to Kick Off Annual Fill the Boot Campaign

Fill the Boot drives benefitting kids and adults with muscular dystrophy will be held on March 21-23, 2018.

MURPHY, Texas, March 19, 2018 — A special kick off event for the annual Fill the Boot fundraising campaign is being hosted by members of the Murphy Fire Department, along with the Muscular Dystrophy Association (MDA), to free individuals – and the families who love them – from the harm of muscular dystrophy, ALS and related life-threatening diseases that take away physical strength, independence and life.

The kick-off event on March 20 at the Murphy Fire Department (206 N. Murphy Rd.) continues this honored tradition after more than 60 years of providing constant ambition and loyalty to help give individuals the strength to live longer and grow stronger. This year’s kickoff event will be attended by the Bukolt family. The Bukolts are long time Parker/Murphy residents and their eight-year-old daughter Avery lives with muscular dystrophy. Avery has attended MDA Summer Camp for the past two years and is very active in the MDA Team Momentum program, serving as an honorary coach for runners in the Dallas Marathon. The Bukolt family will be in attendance to get the department ready to Fill the Boot and to thank them for their hard work and dedication to MDA’s mission “The members of the Murphy Fire Department display an unwavering support for MDA as they raise critical funds to help our families get the strength and resources they need,” said Fundraising Coordinator Danni Frank. “We are so proud to kick off the 2018
Fill the Boot campaign with these first-responders who mirror the strength and nobility of MDA families who strive to live unlimited every day.”

On March 21 at 8am, this year’s Fill the Boot campaign will officially begin at the intersection of N. Murphy Road and Betsy Lane. Members of the Murphy Fire Department will greet motorists on the street, asking them to make a donation to support MDA’s mission of funding research to accelerate treatments and cures, as well as caring and empowering kids and adults from day one so they can thrive. The drive will continue on through Friday, March 23. Members of the community who do not have an opportunity to donate at an intersection can contribute to the drive by visiting https://filltheboot.donordrive.com/team/Murphy2018.

Funds raised through 2018 Murphy Fill the Boot events help MDA’s efforts to fund groundbreaking research and life-enhancing programs such as state-of-the-art support groups and Care Centers, including the MDA Care Center at Children’s Health and Cook Children’s Hospitals in Dallas and Fort Worth respectively. They also help send more than 100 local kids to a life-changing experience in an environment without barriers at MDA Summer Camp at Camp John Marc in Meridian, Texas – all at no cost to their families.

About MDA MDA is leading the fight to free individuals — and the families who love them — from the harm of muscular dystrophy, ALS and related muscle-debilitating diseases that take away physical strength, independence and life. We use our collective strength to help kids and adults live longer and grow stronger by finding research breakthroughs across diseases; caring for individuals from day one; and empowering families with services and support in hometowns across America.
