Massage Envy Murphy is Under New Ownership
The new owners of Massage Envy in Murphy are Roger and Cindy Gulledge (second and third from left). They are pictured with the Murphy Massage Envy Manager, Brittany Chavarria (center), and Plano Massage Envy Manager, Sam Partida (right of center) along with massage therapists at the Murphy location.
On July 30, of this year, Roger and Cindy Gulledge purchased two Massage Envy franchises; one is located in Murphy, within Murphy Marketplace at 223 E. FM 544, Suite 801 and one in Plano, at 6101 K Ave., Suite 160. In 2016, they began researching many franchise opportunities and the more they talked about it, the more they realized that Massage Envy was the perfect fit for them. They love the brand and have been members of Massage Envy since 2008. The previous owner of the Murphy and Plano locations was selling both franchises, so they opted to purchase both. Before taking over the businesses, they spent a lot of time with the previous owner learning the day-to-day operations and they attended mandatory corporate Massage Envy franchisee training.
The Gulledge’s are excited about offering new energy to the Murphy location which opened originally in 2007. Starting March 31, 2019, they will be closed for five days for remodeling. Four skin care rooms will be added as well as other upgrades. They said, “When we reopen, it will be a whole new Massage Envy.” They are really looking forward to building long-term relationships with their customers.
Brittany Chavarria has been the manager of the Murphy Massage Envy location for two years. She provides details of the massage therapists at this location, “We have 14 licensed massage therapists whose experience ranges from three to 18 years. They are trained in multiple massage types ranging from light and relaxing to physical therapy level. They are also trained to give prenatal and postnatal massages.” Sam Partida, manager of the Plano Massage Envy, speaks to the licensing and training requirements at both Massage Envy locations, “Our therapists are licensed with the state. We require continuing education so the therapists are always increasing their skills so they can help as many people as possible.” Chavarria said that all therapists must clear a background check before working with clients. Roger said that Massage Envy corporate double checks that all therapists are licensed and staying up to date on their continuing education requirements. He said, “They want to verify that the Massage Envy brand is always protected and a brand you can trust.”
Chavarria said, “Our goal is to make our clients feel safe and comfortable above all else.” When clients arrive, they will be greeted by the friendly front desk staff and then taken to the tranquility room. While there, they will be asked what brought them to Massage Envy that day. If they have never had a massage, a staff member will explain the entire process so they are not caught off guard at any point. The massage therapist will take the client to the therapy room and the client will be instructed to undress to their comfort level (e.g. you can leave on shorts and a shirt if that is your comfort level), then lie on the table under the provided covers. The therapist will not be in the room during this time and will knock before reentering. Therapists have undergone draping training and will provide modesty coverage. Clients are asked to keep in constant communication with the therapists to insure their experience is custom to their needs.
Chavarria notes that the majority of their clients come to see them either for relaxation or physical therapy issues. Roger said, “You can see people enter who are in obvious physical pain and when they leave there is a noticeable improvement.” In some cases, services provided at Massage Envy are covered by insurance.
Massage Envy offers a wide range of massage options such as massage sessions (60 and 90 minute options), total body stretch sessions (30 and 60 minute sessions), percussion therapy, hot stone massage, couples massage, aromatherapy and much more.
It is not required to have a membership at Massage Envy, they accept walk-ins. However, they point out, that memberships provide a better value for clients. They have great Christmas specials until the end of December and state that gift cards are great stocking stuffers. Roger is a veteran and to show his appreciation he offers daily discounts to first responders, military, veterans and teachers.
