Murphy Middle A-Teams Finish 2nd in City Tournaments

The Murphy Middle School volleyball 7th and 8th grade A-teams both competed in the PISD volleyball tournament  from October 25th-27th where both teams earned second place.

            The 7th grade team, who was seated second at the beginning of the tournament, played their first game against Renner on Friday, the 26th. After defeating Renner, they went on to play Schimelpfenig on Saturday morning, who they also beat, propelling them into the championship against Rice. The Lady Mavs had a rough start, losing 25-15 in the first set. They came back much stronger in the second set, however, taking a 25-23 win against Rice. In a tense final set, the Lady Mavs ultimately fell behind, losing 25-19 in a close 2-1 game.

            The 8th grade A-team began the tournament seated third and played their first game against Schimelpfenig, which they won. This pushed them on to play Haggard, winning against them 2-0 with the final set that game being 28-26. This brought the Lady Mavs up against Rice in the championship game. The Lady Mavs had a strong start to the game, winning the first set 25-20. They some of their momentum, however, in the second set, losing 25-16. In a tough final set, the Lady Mavs lost to Rice 11-25, earning them second place overall.
