Cooper Patriots Play Last Home Game Of Season
Both 7th grade Patriot teams traveled to Pirate stadium to take on the Leopards from Willow Springs Junior High on October 23rd.
The 7th grade Cooper (White) team jumped out to an early with lead when Darryl King returned the opening kickoff 70 yards for a touchdown and 7-0 lead over WSMS. The Leopards responded scoring 22 unanswered points to take a 22-7 lead into half time. Cooper scored early in the third quarter on a 43 yard touchdown run by Ryan Talla with King converting the extra point on a short run making it 22-14 Willow Springs. The Leopards extended their lead 28-14 late in the third quarter but Cooper rallied to keep the Leopards from pulling away. Cooper closed the gap to 28-21 on a 70 yard touchdown run by Talla with Dawson Cleveland converting the extra point on a run. Darryl King followed with another long run tying the game 28-28 with a 50 yard score. Cooper had a chance to steal the win in the final minute but came up short resulting in a 28-28 tie.
The 7th Cooper (Maroon) team scored first in their game with Aiden Atwell finding Dorian Melendez for a 15 yard touchdown pass with Matthew Aguilar kicking the extra point for an 8-0 lead. Willow Springs responded with a touchdown but Cooper again found the endzone on the following drive to extend their lead on #Dorian Melendez's second touchdown catch of the day (56 yards) for a 14-6 lead. The visiting team controlled the second half scoring twice and shutting down the Patriot offense leading to a 22-14 win for the Leopards.
