Murphy B-Teams Battle it out Against Hendrick
On October 15th, the Murphy Middle School 7th and 8th grade B-teams competed against the Hendrick Hawks in their final game of the regular season.
The 7th grade Lady Mavs began the night with Neela Raman serving 5 consecutive rallies, putting Murphy in a promising lead. Katie Pilgrim furthered this lead, serving and helping win another 7 rallies. The Lady Mavs let up a little near the end of the first set with the Hawks trailing by only 3 points, however the 7th grade team eventually came out on top with a 25-21 win for the first set. The Lady Mavs absolutely dominated in the second set. Christina Matthew served a highly impressive 19 consecutive rallies, a majority of which were aces. This made for a 25-5 win and 2-0 total victory for the 7th grade B-team.
The 8th grade team also had a powerful performance during their game in the second half of the night. The Lady Mavs maintained a strong lead throughout the first set, winning 25-8, with notable performances from Lynlee Deans and Molly Conner. At the beginning of the second set, Hendrick jumped ahead with a considerable lead on Murphy. The Lady Mavs, however, still managed to jump back on top with Erika Almholt and Rachel Mattox helping lead the team to a 25-15 win and a 2-0 ultimate triumph for the 8th grade Lady Mavs.
