WISD Presents Wylie Way Award
Wylie ISD recently announced Tony Jacinto as the recipient of the Wylie Way Award for Caring and Giving. He was selected out of hundreds of nominations to receive this prestigious award for creating a nonprofit called “His Gracious Hands.” He and other volunteers spend countless hours providing women and children, among others in the community, with assistance on many different levels. His purpose is to give these people hope during their journey toward a better life.
Joley Martin, who nominated Jacinto for this award, shared her reasons for feeling he should win. “He has compassion for people and those fallen on hard times and believes that he has a duty to give back to others and does so daily. He feeds 50 families during the holidays and held a personal toy drive, inviting friends from social media, to benefit children for Wylie Way Christmas this past year. That drive brought in over one thousand dollars in gift cards and toys to this event! Tony has taken it upon himself to care about our kids and their families and does all of this for nothing in return.”
She went on to say, “He supports our annual Back to School Fair with a few hundred backpacks each year and is all around the most genuinely sincere, caring, giving man I have ever had the pleasure of meeting. He is currently working on a summer food program aimed at feeding our homeless high school students and has partnered with First Baptist Church to use their property for this event where he plans to offer facilities for showering to those in need as well.”
As part of their character education program, Wylie ISD established the Wylie Way Awards to recognize six people or organizations making a difference throughout the community. Nominees must have a connection to Wylie ISD and be kind, respectful, responsible and caring. Each nominee should also feel passionate about preparing children for a successful life after completing high school. Winners of the Wylie Way Award will all be recognized during school board meetings and at a formal banquet later this year. Nominations can be made by visiting wylieisd.net.
