Plano East JV Soccer Dominates On the Pitch

The cold temperatures couldn't cool the Panther JV mens team's offensive attack as they exploded for five goals in the final game of the Allen Showcase tournament leading to a 5-0 win over Woodrow Wilson HS. The JV team won their first game of the tournament 1-0 over Creekview and tied the second against Mesquite finishing the weekend with a 2-0-1 record in the tournament.
The first goal, and eventual game winner, for the Panthers against Wilson was a chip shot over the goalie by Dario Martinez-Tamez in the 18th minute. Martinez-Tamez took advantage of the goalie being out of position thanks to a strong run and attack by Hamza Suhwail that pulled the goalie out. Ten minutes later Martinez-Tamez netted his second goal of the game beating the goalie with a shot to the left corner. Plano East didn't let up in the second half with three more goals in route to a 5-0 final. Panthers scoring in the second half included, Luis Sahmkow, Hamza Suhwai and Yeovani Jimenez (pk). Coach Jake Downs noted his players "came out composed" and "patiently waited out (Wilson) until they were tired" to take advantage of a mistake for the first goal. Coach Downs wants to improve on the teams "finishing and ability find the corners" on their shots as the season moves forward. Notching the shutout for the Panthers was a combined effort by goalies Barrett Agnew and Giovanny Soto.
