Murphy Residents Achieve Rank of Eagle Scout
James Baldwin and Ian Yates, both members of Boy Scout Troop 555 and residents of Murphy, have earned the honor of Eagle Scout, the highest rank that the Boy Scouts offer. Only 3 to 4 percent of Boy Scout members ever attain this prestigious honor. To earn this award, each boy had to actively participate in scouts, earn 21 merit badges, hold a position of responsibility within the troop, and complete a service project—all before their 18th birthdays.
For their final projects, James created a river crossing at a popular mountain biking trail in Rowlett and Ian organized and ran a collection drive for the Samaritan Inn, a homeless shelter in McKinney. James is a senior at Plano East Senior High and Ian, a graduate of Plano East, is currently a student at Utah Valley University in Orem, Utah.
