LearningRx Provides Brain Training
LearningRx invites everyone to their grand opening celebration on January 21st. There will be brain games, contests, food and prizes, as well as demonstrations on how brain training works. (11am – 2pm.) Dr. Deepika Minnal is the owner and director of LearningRx (she is the pediatrician at her medical practice, Tots to Teens, also located in Murphy). Dr. Minnal, and her family, have lived in Murphy for ten years.
Dr. Minnal describes LearningRx as a brain training program where adults and children can build cognitive skills. Each program is personalized for each student. She informs that there has been extensive research on the results of cognitive learning skills, as well as MRI results, that show marked improvement after students have participated in LearningRx cognitive training.
Discussing how children will benefit from attending LearningRx, Dr. Minnal lists the following areas that will improve: attention, processing speed, working memory, auditory processing, visual processing, logic & reasoning and long-term memory. She adds, “Learning Rx determines where a student is lacking, and works on improvement.” “Clients who came to LearningRx with a prior diagnosis of Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD) achieved the greatest gains overall, averaging 11.9 standard score points across cognitive skills.” (LearningRx informational brochure)
Dr. Minnal states that adults will benefit from LearningRx training if they want to improve their cognitive skills, or if they have memory concerns and/or post traumatic cognitive decline. “Clients over the age of 50 who came to LearningRx made the greatest gains in IQ score, averaging a 19-point increase.” (LearningRx informational brochure)
Learning Rx is not a tutoring center. Through one to one training, students will build cognitive skills which will help them learn better and function at a higher level throughout life. In addition to educational benefits, LearningRx students have shown improvement in family interactions, sports and general everyday life improvements.
The cost ($80 - $85 per one hour session) is based on which program is selected. Dr. Minnal says, “It’s like going to a gym, the more you go, the better the results.” Trainers at Learning Rx undergo rigorous training before training a student.
Her one year goal is to educate the community about brain training and cognitive skills as well as increase the understanding that LearningRx is a great resource. Her five year goal is that everyone in Murphy, who needs it, gets this training.
