August  24 - Exchange Club of Murphy meets the 2nd and 4th Tuesday of each month at Country Burger in Murphy Marketplace, FM 544 and North Murphy Road, 12 noon to 1 p.m.  No reservation necessary. August 24 - Asian Community Crime & Safety Awareness Program, Murphy City Hall, 7 p.m.

August 25  – Murphy Chamber Come & Go Networking Luncheon  Noon to 1 p.m. at Jimmy John’s Sandwiches on Renner Road. 

August 26 - Crime Watch Meeting – 7 p.m. Police Department Training Room. Meetings are held on the last Thursday of each month. Meetings are open to all citizens and everyone is welcome to attend! 

August 30  - TaleSippers Book Club,  6:30 p.m. in the back room of Saxbys Coffee, Murphy. We will be discussing the book, South of Broad  by Pat Conroy.

September 7 – Murphy Public Hearing will be held on a proposal to increase total tax revenues from properties on the tax roll in the preceding tax year by 6.40 percent (percentage by which proposed tax rate exceeds lower of rollback tax rate or effective tax rate calculated under Chapter 26, Tax Code).  Time:  6 p.m.at City of Murphy – Council Chambers, 206 N. Murphy Road, Murphy, Texas 75094.

September 8 - Murphy Realty Connection meets the 2nd Wednesday of each month at 11:45 a.m. (meeting and lunch) at the Standard Pacific model in Maxwell Creek, 626 Waters Edge Way, Murphy. Tours start at 12:30 p.m. for local Murphy homes on the market for sale. Open to area Realtors and Brokers. September 14 – Murphy Chamber 2nd Tuesday Business Card Exchange – 7:30 a.m. Saxbys Coffee, FM 544, Murphy Marketplace.

September 16 - Sit, Sip and Stitch Group meets at 11 a.m. the Murphy Starbucks, corner of FM 544 and Murphy Road. Come gather with us to knit, crochet, and to do other needle work. Artists of all experience levels are welcome. For more information, call Rhonda at (972) 423-1672.

September 21 -  Murphy Chamber of Commerce – Monthly luncheon meeting, 11:30 a.m. Community Room in the Murphy City Hall, 206 N. Murphy Road, Murphy, TX  75094.

September 25 – Murphy Maize Days – Begin the day with Murphy’s A-Maize-ing 5K/Fun Run starting at 8 a.m. at Kimbrough Stadium. Then head over to the Murphy City Hall Complex from 10 a.m. to 8:30 p.m. for a winning combination of live music, exciting family-friendly activities and fireworks show. September 27 - TaleSippers Book Club,  6:30 p.m. in the back room of Saxbys Coffee, Murphy. We will be discussing the book, The Imperfectionists by Tom Rachman.

October 24 -  Halloween Pet Costume Contest, Sunday afternoon 2-4 p.m. Sponsored by A&B Kennel Club (owned & operated by Murphy resident) and the Murphy Messenger. Dress up your pet and bring them to A & B Kennel Club, 200 Security Court, Wylie. Watch for details!

Thursdays – Rotary Club of Wylie meets every Thursday, 12 noon to 1 p.m. at Woodbridge Golf club, 7400 Country Club Drive, Wylie.

Thursdays – Sundays  In-Sync Exotics Wildlife Rescue and Educational Center, 3430 Skyview Drive, next to Lavon Lake Dam, Wylie. Open to the public during the summer on Thursdays, Fridays, Saturdays & Sundays, 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. There is a requested donation of $10 per adult and $7 per child. This donation goes directly to pay for the cats’ care and is tax deductible. As always, group tours are available daily but must be scheduled in advance.
