October 15 - Sit, Sip and Stitch Group meets at 11 a.m. the Murphy Starbucks, corner of FM 544 and Murphy Road. Come gather with us to knit, crochet, and to do other needle work. Artists of all experience levels are welcome. For more information, call Rhonda at (972) 423-1672.

October 15 – Bulky Trash Pick-up Day Pick up will begin very early on that day, so you will need to have all items out by your curb the night before your scheduled pick up date. This will ensure that your items will not be missed.

October 15  – Crime Watch Meeting – 7 p.m. Police Department Training Room. Meetings are held on the 3rd Thursday of each month. Meetings are open to all citizens and everyone is welcome to attend! 

October 16 – Murphy Chamber Ribbon Cutting – Quiznos is reopening under new management. Join us at 4:30 to welcome new owners, Gerald and April Taylor to the Chamber.  158 W. FM 544, Suite 118, Murphy.

October 17  -  Pet Howl-o-ween Costume Contest – Join the Murphy Messenger and A & B Kennel Club, 200 Security Court, Wylie for an afternoon that will make you howl! November 7 – History Blooms in the Decatur – Maxwell – Murphy Cemetery.  The Cemetery Association of Murphy, Inc. invites you to the dedication and unveiling of the cemetery’s Historic Marker and to bring your bulbs for planting at gravesites for spring blooms.

October 15 - Genealogy Friends of Plano Libraries, Inc. presents “City Directories, Newspapers and Obituaries with the Census as Your Guide”.  The speaker will be Barbara Coakley.  This free lecture will be held

October 20 - Collin McKinney Daughters of the Republic of Texas will meet at the Plano Harrington Public Library at 7 pm.  The program will be about the life of Eddie "Sarge" Stinson who recently passed away, but was known for his research on the first African American families in Plano, Texas. October 30 - Girl Scout Service Unit 151 Boo Ball, Bowman Middle School, 2501 Jupiter Road, Plano, 6:30 – 9 p.m. Open to the public! You'll have a screamin' time at the Boo Ball!  Activities include carnival booths with prizes, snacks/drinks for sale, craft booths, Halloween games, a costume contest, and more. $8 per person at the door (includes admission and 10 'boo' tickets.)  The price is the same regardless of age. Boo tickets are used to pay for the activities and are available for 25 cents each. Kids under 17 must be accompanied by an adult. (Costumes should be appropriate for a kid-friendly event.) October 24 & 25 - Huffhines Art Trails, an arts & crafts show produced by the City of Richardson! The show is located in Huffhines Park at the corner of Plano Road and Apollo Road. Huffhines Art Trails is open from 10am - 6pm on Saturday and Sunday.

October 23 & 24 – Wylie Championship Rodeo – Friday 6:30 pm – 10:30 pm and Saturday 11am – 4 pm.  Besides the Pro Rodeo action, there will be western themed craft and vendor booths for that early Christmas shopping, food from a variety of concessionaires, Kiddie Corral, games, bouncy houses, mechanical bull rides and more! Birmingham FFA Barn and Arena, Corner of Hensley Ln. and Guy Poole Rd.

November 14 – Tiger Trot –  1-mile Walk-A-Thon at Bob Woodruff Park in Plano, TX benefiting those wonderful exotic cats (including “Kahn” the Messenger lion) at In-Sync Exotics!  The Tiger Trot will be a benefit to raise money for medical treatment and new enclosures for In-Sync Exotics’ 44 cats.
