» MAIZE DAYS Scarecrow Decorating Contest

Please join us in celebrating Murphy Maize Days with a Scarecrow Decorating Contest. Businesses, service organizations, HOA’s, and individuals may participate. Whether scary or funny, silly or ridiculous, this is your chance to express yourself! Use your imagination, discarded old clothes, hats, gloves, and any other accessories you’ll need to make your scarecrow unforgettable!

• Complete the Contest Registration Form by the September 25, 2009 deadline to participate.
• The contest will take place on Friday, September 25th. All scarecrows must be completed and set up by 7:30 p.m. 

 Judging will take place between 7:30 – 8:00 p.m. on the 25th.
 Decorating may be done onsite that evening, or offsite and set up at the Municipal Complex by 7:30 p.m. You may decorate your scarecrow however you like. Be creative, but please keep them tasteful! The City of Murphy reserves the right to eliminate a scarecrow from the contest if it is deemed inappropriate. 

 All scarecrows must be free-standing. Hay bales may be used. No stakes will be allowed in the ground.

• Scarecrows will be displayed on “Scarecrow Alley” at the Municipal Complex beginning at 7:30 p.m. on Friday, September 25th through 7:30 p.m. on Saturday, September 26th. All scarecrows must be removed no later than 9:00 p.m. on September 26th.
• Scarecrows must be decorated to withstand outdoor elements (rain, wind, sun, etc...)
• Decorations should be permanently attached to the scarecrow frame.
• The City of Murphy will not be held responsible for materials or items used to decorate the scarecrows.
• The City will not be held liable for any damage; theft or vandalism to scarecrows at any time.
• Prizes will be awarded in the following categories: Grand Scarecrow Champion, Reserve Champion, and Best of Show. 

 Winners will receive the corresponding ribbon, photograph in local papers, and bragging rights for the year!

» CORN COOK-OFF AT MURPHY MAIZE DAYS

Pull out your favorite “Corn” recipe and enter the first annual Corn Cook-off at the Murphy Maize Days Celebration on September 26, 2008 at the Murphy City Hall complex. 

As part of the event festivities, a Corn Cook-Off sponsored by The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints will be held at 2:00 p.m. with a panel of local celebrity judges.  Awards will be given out at 3:00 p.m. at the main stage on the East side the Murphy City Hall. 

To be considered for judging, all entries must be received between 1:00 p.m. and 2:00 p.m.  Categories include appetizer or side dish, main dish entrée, rolls or breads or muffins and desserts.

Registration forms are available at City Hall or at www.murphymaizedays.com.  All Registration forms must be submitted by 5:00 p.m. on September 24, 2009.  Contest rules and general information are listed below.  Please contact Natalie Montgomery, Contest Coordinator, at 214-415-8998 or nataliemontgomery@hotmail.com for more information or questions.

RULES AND INFORMATION:
• All entries must have “Corn” as an ingredient.
• No refrigeration is available.
• Participants may enter more than one category, but only one entry per category.
• Registration forms must be received by September 24, 2009 at 5:00 p.m.  Please return registration forms to Natalie Montgomery or to Aimee Nemer, City Secretary, 206 N. Murphy Road, Murphy City Hall.
• No entries will be returned.

RODEO HAS BEEN POSTPONED!!!

RAINDROPS KEEP FALLIN’ ON OUR RODEO!!

 
Due to the poor arena conditions and in consideration of the safety of our sponsors, participants, vendors and patrons, we must postpone the Wylie Championship Rodeo.  Our new dates will be Friday, October 23rd from 6:30 pm – 10:30 pm and Saturday October 24th, from 11:00 am – 4:00 pm.  We apologize for the inconvenience, and look forward to seeing you in October!

» Moonlight Movies Rescheduled for this Friday

Moonlight Movies was canceled due to weather last Friday night but the movie, Hotel for Dogs, has been rescheduled to Friday, August 7th at 9 p.m. at the Murphy Municipal Complex.

Plano East Cluster - Clinic Participants to Get Free Lacrosse Stick; Summer Camp Offers Detailed Instruction

 

MURPHY, TX (July 17, 2009) -- The Plano East Lacrosse Association (PELA) will host a two-hour entry level lacrosse clinic and an in-depth three-day summer camp in early August for boys entering grades 1 through 8 next school year in the Plano East Cluster.  The clinic and camp are excellent opportunities to learn about and develop skills in the fastest-growing sport in North America.
 
CLINIC
The two-hour clinic begins at 9:00 a.m. on August 1 at 201 N. Murphy Road.  The athletic field is behind the old Murphy fire station, just north of the railroad tracks by Lowe’s.  Please enter the parking lot using the north-side driveway.  Parking is available at the field.
 
A $30 fee will be collected on-site at the clinic.  In addition to two hours of instruction on basic lacrosse stick skills, participants will be given a lacrosse stick they can take home and keep.  Water and sports drinks will be provided.
 
Please e-mail your request for a registration form to PELATEAMInfo@tx.rr.com.  The form will be e-mailed in reply to your request.  A parent’s or guardian’s signature is required.

 

Boys eligible for the camp are also eligible to participate next school year in Murphy Lacrosse, which sponsors teams for boys in 1st through 8th grade.  Murphy Lacrosse is sponsored by PELA, and more information is available at http://www.webitdept.com/MMLS/MMSLmain.htm.
 
SUMMER CAMP
For more in-depth skills development, incoming 1st through 8th graders can participate in PELA’s Summer Camp.  From 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. August 4 through 6, participants will receive detailed instruction in the game from experienced coaches and players.  The camp also will take place at 201 N. Murphy Road, behind the old Murphy fire station.
 
Water and sports drinks will be provided, and participants will receive a free Murphy LAX Summer Camp T-shirt.
 
The camp will conclude with a complementary barbecue from 8:00 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. on Thursday, August 6.
 
The Summer Camp fee is $50.  Please send your request for a registration form to PELATEAMInfo@tx.rr.com.  A parent or guardian should sign the form and bring it and the fee to the first day of camp.  Participants should bring a lacrosse stick, gloves, arm pads, shoulder pads, supporter, and helmet.
