» Murphy Road Reduced to One Lane for Re-Striping Friday

Weather permitting; the Texas Department of Transportation will be re-striping pavement this week for Phase 1 of the expansion project on Murphy Road (FM 2551) between FM 544 and the KCS/DART railroad crossing.

This will occur on Friday, April 5, 2013 between the hours of 9 a.m. and 3 p.m.

During the closures, each direction of traffic will take turns moving through this section of roadway with the assistance of flaggers.

» Muphy Road Reduced To One Lane for Culvert Replacements

Per TxDOT, weather permitting, the Texas Department of Transportation will be replacing multiple?culverts on Murphy Road (FM 2551) between Shirehurst and McMillan Streets during the week of March 11.

This will occur daily during Spring Break between the hours of 8 a.m. and 5 p.m. while peak traffic volume is low due to the holiday.

Construction will begin on the east side of Murphy Road shifting to the west side of the road during the week in order to keep one lane open. During the closures, each direction of traffic will take turns moving through this section of roadway with the assistance of flaggers.

As part of the ongoing groundwork for the reconstruction of North Murphy Road, Oncor Electric Company is planning a partial power outage for the Glen Ridge subdivision, including Boggess Elementary School, on Saturday, March 2, according to James Fisher, City Manager.

Citing a lack of flexibility and a more vigorous professional schedule, Murphy Mayor Bret Baldwin has tendered his resignation as Mayor, according to City Manager James Fisher.

“The Mayor will serve out the current term and will vacate the office after the May 11 election. And, since the Mayor’s seat was not up for election this cycle, the Council must call a special election to fill the opening,” he said.

\The Texas Baptist Men (TBM) was called by Murphy’s First Baptist Church pastor Dr. Don Cole to cut down trees located on their property that connected to McMillen High School’s property.

The trees were deemed “Dangerous, ugly and dead” by Pastor Cole. An agreement was formed with PISD that if the church arranged for the trees felling, then the school district would provide a dumpster and remove the trees. Concern over the trees falling on parked cars or cars traveling through either parking lot or falling on a passerby instigated the tree removal.
