» PESH Student to attend President Obama's State of the Union Address
By Plano ISD | Published 01/24/2011 | Education | Unrated

This past week junior Amy Chyao received a telephone call at school from the White House and learned that President Obama has invited her to Washington D.C.  to attend and sit with the First Lady at his State of the Union Address Tuesday night.
Amy is being invited as recognition of her winning overall first place in the International Science & Engineering Fair last spring. This is her second invitation from the President; she presented her science fair project to him at the White House this fall.
President Obama's State of the Union Address will be televised locally at 8:00 p.m. Tuesday evening on every major network. What an incredible honor this is for our Plano East Panther, Amy Chyao.

» Plano East to Cancel Classes on Tuesday, November 23
By Plano ISD | Published 11/22/2010 | Education | Unrated

\"\"Plano East Senior High School Principal Karen McDonald has announced that the school has received a second bomb threat. Although the threat is not credible, in an abundance of caution, classes will be canceled for Tuesday, November 23.

The cancellation of school will enable the district to completely sweep the building with the canine units.  Plano ISD is continuing to work with the Plano Police Department to follow up on strong leads in both instances.

Although we are not required to make up school for Tuesday\'s closure, any subsequent time lost due to these types of threats will be made up.

» WHICH HIGH SCHOOL WILL MILLER FEED INTO?
By Plano ISD | Published 12/3/2009 | Education | Interest Level:

The Plano ISD Board of Trustees met in a regular work session on Tuesday, November 17, to discuss the feeder alignment process that the district is undergoing in preparation of the opening of Otto Middle School and McMillen High School in 2010 and 2011, respectively.  These decisions will directly affect the direction that our Miller Mustangs will take upon completion of elementary school.

Having met within their board subcommittees during the previous weeks, the trustees are pursuing study of a plan, referred to as "Option 3" at the work session, and are seeking additional community input before their formal vote scheduled for December 15. Option 3 would convert Williams High School to an academy program for ninth through twelfth graders.

The December 15 board meeting remains confirmed for 7:00 p.m. at Sockwell Center (the closed session will begin at 6:00 p.m.).
