Decatur-Maxwell-Murphy Cemetery 11 a.m. Saturday, November 7th
The public is invited to join the Cemetery Association of Murphy, Inc., invited dignitaries, city officials and special guests to the unveiling and dedication of the Historical Marker at the Decatur-Maxwell-Murphy Cemetery on Saturday, November 7th, 11 a.m.
The purchase of the Historical Marker was made possible by the generous donation of the Bogdan Family: Kent, Roxanne, Andrew, Blake and Carter. It has taken almost a full year for the arrival of the marker from the State of Texas and CAM members are most excited about sharing its dedication with Murphy residents and family members of those buried in the abandoned cemetery.
Following the brief dedication ceremony, flower bulbs will be planted at a number of gravesites. Thanks to Professional Landscaping, Inc. there will be 100 bulbs and mulch available for this year’s annual event. Murphy residents of 19 years, Ron and Pat Williford are the owners of Professional Landscaping, Inc. and they are pleased to provide a little “color” to the serene setting when their donated bulbs turn into beautiful blooms in the spring. Chris Williford (son) and Rhonda Ptak (daughter) work with their parents to offer residential and commercial landscaping, mowing, tree trimming, tractor work, clean-up, sprinkler systems and repair, patios and gazebos. Professional Landscaping, Inc. is a member of the Murphy Chamber.
If you have bulbs you would like to bring/plant from your home gardens, you are welcome to do so. Please also bring your own gardening tools such as shovels, trowels, etc. if possible. Refreshments will be compliments of Albertson’s and there will be an on-site port-a-let.
The cemetery is located at the end of a gravel road, at the junction of North Maxwell Creek Road and Tom Clevenger Road. There will be signage to direct you.
Won’t you please help preserve Murphy’s oldest landmark?
