CHILD ENDANGERMENT
[Murphy] - At approximately 11:15 A.M. on Wednesday, June 11, 2008, the Murphy Police Department and the Murphy Fire Department responded to 280 -108 E. FM 544 reference to a baby inside an deserted vehicle. Patrol Officers located a 21 month old female inside of a White Nissan Armanda SUV with only two windows cracked open slightly. With the assistance of the Murphy Fire Department entry was made into the vehicle and the child was safely removed and immediately treated by paramedics. Additional officers responded to the scene and were able to locate the mother of child.
The mother of the child was located inside a local business where officers discovered that she had been “tanning”. It was learned through investigative methods that the child had been locked inside the vehicle with no air conditioning for approximately twenty minutes prior to the mother being located by police.
The child was thoroughly examined by paramedics and released to Child Protective Services at the scene.
The mother of the child was arrested at the scene for ABANDONING OR ENDANGERING OF A CHILD, which is a state jail felony. She was arraigned by Judge Cathy Haden and bond was set at $10,000.00.
This investigation continues and additional information will be released as it becomes available.
