[Murphy] -At approximately 12:25 pm, the Murphy Police Department received a 9-1-1 call reporting to a two vehicle, injury accident in the 600 block of West F.M. 544. Public safety personnel from both the City of Murphy and the City of Plano responded to the scene.
Preliminary investigation at the scene revealed that a 2002 Ford Focus, driven by 38 year old Tina Cooley of Wylie was traveling West bound on FM 544, between Heritage Parkway and Dublin Road. As a result of heavy rain, the vehicle began to hydro-plane. The driver lost control, the vehicle crossed a grassy median and re-entered the roadway, traveling South across the east bound lanes and into the path of a Ford F-350 pickup truck. The Ford car was then struck on the passenger side.
All three occupants of the car were taken by ambulances of Murphy Fire-Rescue and the Plano Fire Department to Medical Center Hospital of Plano. One of the occupants, 10 year old Maeve Cooley was pronounced dead by an Emergency Room Physician, as a result of injuries she sustained in the accident. Her brother, 9 year old Rhys Cooley was transferred to Children’s Medical Center of Dallas for further treatment. The driver and children’s mother, Tina, remains at Medical Center Hospital of Plano for continued treatment of her injuries. The driver of the pickup, Deborah Reynolds of Wylie, was not injured.
All persons involved in the accident were wearing seat belts and no air bags were deployed as a result of this collision. This accident remains under investigation by the Murphy Police Department and additional details will be released as they become available. At this time, the filing of criminal charges is not anticipated as a result of this accident. Other family members were notified early this afternoon.
