Destination: Most Unusual - Independence Pass - Continental Divide
Where were you? The photo was taken on June 2 as we drove back to Texas from Aspen, Colorado. Independence Pass is one of the most dangerous roads in America. At points it is one lane with steep cliffs on one side, and sheer dropoffs on the other. (10 mph only!) The road had only been open for about a week since it takes a while to clear away snow, rocks, and tree debris from the Winter storms. It was about 45 degrees when the photo was taken and much colder with the wind! It is amazing what a change in altitude can do to the temperature! The photo is me and my daughter, Katelyn.
