MURPHY (June 21, 2012) The City’s municipal offices will close on Wednesday, July 4 to allow employees the opportunity to celebrate the 236th anniversary of the official birth of our nation, according to City Manager James Fisher.

“Our country, young though it may be, is actually the oldest democracy in the world. When our founding fathers signed the document declaring independence from British rule, they embarked on an experiment that, while imperfect, has withstood many challenges both internal and external. We celebrate the success of that experiment by taking time to remember the many freedoms and liberties we enjoy, while at the same time remaining mindful that many of our sons and daughters remain in harm’s way,” he said.

While administrative offices will close for that day, emergency services will continue without interruption.

Police and Fire will respond to 9-1-1 calls, or calls to their non-emergency numbers. Patrol officers will conduct their rounds as usual, and firefighters will remain ready for any emergency.

The Fire Marshal reminds residents that the possession and use of fireworks is prohibited within the City limits. Residents wishing to enjoy fireworks should take advantage of the various public displays around the area.

Offices will reopen on Thursday, July 5, and trash and recycling collection will remain unchanged for that day.

“We urge Murphy residents to enjoy the day safely. If you know of any neighbors on vacation, please look out for their property. Let’s demonstrate true Murphy care and concern,” urged Fisher.
