LDS Church announces new building in Wylie

Citizens of Wylie and Murphy Texas, who are members of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints were notified recently that approval has been given to build a new Chapel in Wylie. Currently, congregations of the Wylie 1st Ward and Wylie 2nd Ward have been meeting in a Chapel located in North Garland.

The growth of the LDS Church in the Wylie and Murphy areas over the past four years has been sufficient for leaders of the Church, located in Salt Lake City, to acquire land in Wylie, and authorize construction to begin on the new building.

The building will be the new home for approximately 890 members of the two Wylie Wards.? Wards are determined by geographical boundaries which make up a congregation. There is enough room in the new building for future growth as the Wylie area continues to grow.? The facility in Wylie, which is nearly 20,000 square feet, will seat about 300 people in the chapel with an overflow to accommodate an additional 450.? There will be approximately 20 classrooms and a gym that can be used for conferences, socials, and weekly activities geared towards youth and families.

The building will also abate the need for high school students who are currently meeting in homes of members for early morning religious studies.? Once the building is completed the students will assemble at 5:45 am for joint classroom instruction.

The new chapel will be located in the Birmingham Farms neighborhood on the corner of Sanden Boulevard and Brown Street, about one half of a mile east of the new City Hall, the Library, and the Recreation Center.

The construction is anticipated to begin in May 2012 with an estimated completion date of June 2013.? An Open House will be held upon completion, where the public will be invited to tour the new building.
